Users Workshop, 17-19 January 2003, Montpellier, France

Collecting the requirements and views of network users in the European research community was an important part of the SERENATE studies. Following a widely distributed questionnaire aimed at researchers, the Users Workshop offered an additional opportunity for them to provide inputs to the SERENATE work.

The objectives for the workshop were:

  • to consider the views and aspirations of European end-users of networking infrastructure with regard to the future provision of research and education networks across Europe
  • to consider issues relating to both research use and non-research uses of infrastructures
  • to make recommendations to inform the main stakeholders and policy makers at national and European levels with regard to any future provision of integrated European network capacity.

The workshop consisted of a number of plenary orientation presentations describing issues relating to different end-user communities, followed by breakout sessions and synthesis discissions.

The workshop was held at the IBM France Facility in Montpellier.
