NREN Workshop, 4-5 February 2003, Noordwijkerhout, Netherlands

As the SERENATE project was half-way through its lifetime and a number of work items had been completed while work on other items was about to start, there was a need to report back to the research and education networking organisations in Europe and to receive their inputs for the next phases of the project. These were the main objectives of a closed SERENATE workshop for managers of National Research and Education Networks, which took place in Noordwijkerhout, the Netherlands on 4 and 5 February 2003.

The workshop programme included presentations on the SERENATE work items that had been completed, and discussions on the conclusions in those reports. A special focus was on models for NRENs that may follow from the market and regulation studies carried out in the project. A separate session for representatives from countries aspiring for EU membership looked into geographic issues.
